'SA an expert in smuggling fugitives out of the country'

South Africa is now an expert in smuggling fugitives out of the country, Shadow Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Stevens Mokgalapa says.

Mokgalapa was responding to news that Grace Mugabe managed to leave South Africa, despite a pending case of assault against her.

He says the South African police failed to do their job in arresting Mugabe and instead, she was granted diplomatic immunity.

According to reports, Mugabe left the country in the early hours of Sunday morning alongside her husband, President Robert Mugabe.

The South African government is an expert in smuggling fugitives of law out of the country. This is the same modus operandi done in the Omar al-Bashir [case], even though the circumstances might be slightly different.

This is one of those movies that South Africa can easily write on how to smuggle a fugitive out of the country.

According to Mokgalapa, even though Mugabe is out of the country, the matter is still ongoing. He says they will soon be calling for a multi-departmental inquiry to account before Parliament.

Meanwhile, lobby group AfriForum announced it will be approaching the courts to have Mugabe's diplomatic immunity reviewed.

Yes, she might have gone out of the country, but that doesn't mean the whole legal process shuts down.

This is a clear abuse of state resources and power.
