Snuki Zikalala's track is really poor on many levels - broadcasting researcher

The African National Congress (ANC) wanted former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) head of news Snuki Zikalala to be an SABC board member.

Zikalala was a controversial figure at the SABC, allegedly responsible for creating a blacklist of commentators. He was viewed as having played a role similar to controversial former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng during the Thabo Mbeki era.

Kate Skinner, Member at SOS Support Public Broadcasting Campaign and independent broadcast researcher says her heart sank at the news of Zikalala's nomination but was soon relieved when she learned that his nomination did not pass.

Zikalala's track is really poor on a lot levels but the main one being the blacklisting crises in 2006.

Kate Skinner, Member at SOS Support Public Broadcasting Campaign and independent broadcast researcher

Its very good to see that he hasn't been included. I think a lot of people sighed with relief.

Skinner says it is important to scrutinise the track record of all nominees to avoid electing less suitable board members.
