The cost of education (and alternatives to scrounging to afford private school)

30 April 2015 8:00 PM

Education inflation is currently at nine percent. But that needn't exclude your child from receiving quality education.

* Quality school (not university!) education will cost you between R1m and R7.7m

The Money Show's Bruce Whitfield interviewed Galileo Capital Financial Advisor Warren Ingram about the skyrocketing cost of education (currently rising by nine percent each year).

  • How much will it cost over a full education “career”? It could be around R1 million for a quality public school education and about R2.2 million for a private school.

  • Are there alternatives you should consider?

  • Is “private school at all costs” really a good idea?

  • What are the social and/or economic impact on your child and family if you scrape every cent together to afford the best private school?

Listen to the audio (scroll down) for more detail and answers to these questions.

It’s not true that the most expensive equals the best. The old Model C schools provide a great education. You’re robbing your family’s financial future if you scrape by to afford a private school.
