It's difficult to gage if sales a sign of Gupta SA exit - analyst

Right after the Gupta family sold ANN7 and The New Age, their company Oakbay Investments also parted ways with mining company Tegeta Exploration and Resources.

Tegeta was sold for R2.79 billion.

There's been widespread speculation that the sales of all these companies may be an indication that the Guptas are getting ready to leave South Africa.

Political analyst Karima Brown says its difficult to gauge whether this is the case.

The Guptas are involved in a lot of subterfuge. They did get people to believe the last time that they were getting on a plane and leaving the country, when in fact, they were digging in their heels and accelerating the take over of some state-owned institutions.

Karima Brown, political analyst

According to Brown, the sale of Tegeta to a Swiss company raises a couple of warning flags.

She says there are issues around the legality of the deal.

Brown says more will be revealed about the Tegeta deal by the weekend, but people should not see this as confirmation of the Guptas getting ready to leave.

Anyone who thinks that the Guptas are out of here, need to pause...
