Bonang Mohale Hits Out at the Leadership Crisis in SA

Outspoken on issues of political economy and its devastation by high levels of corruption, Bonang Mohale accepted his current position as the CEO of Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) to advance business as the catalyst for change. He also serves on the University of Pretoria's Advisory Council.

Delivering a hard-hitting keynote address at the third annual Lead SA Changemakers Conference in Johannesburg, Mohale, didn't mince words about the state of South Africa.

"We have to accept that our leaders have chosen poorly conceived and executed policies."

Bonang Mohale

"We can no longer genuinely blame colonialism for our problems today."

Bonang Mohale

"We have a president who willfully took us 20 years back. It will take a long time to come back."

Bonang Mohale

"Resources are not a problem, it is our inability to manage... We are poor by choice, not by fate. We have chosen leaders who have created this reality for us."

Bonang Mohale

"Leading is waking up every morning and feeling that you can make a difference."

Bonang Mohale

"How will we face the future if we cannot even prepare our children for their current reality, let alone the future."

Bonang Mohale

"There are only two types of nations in the world - the quick and the dead."

Bonang Mohale

"If you choose to stand still and do nothing. You are choosing to go backwards."

Bonang Mohale

"If your own employees cannot afford the goods and services that you are offering then there's a problem.

Bonang Mohale

"Our people are holding us back, because we call them leaders and not servants of our people."

Bonang Mohale

"We can develop a type of citizenship that will provide us with critical perspectives... When Africa can educate its young, then we know that a better and brighter future will come."
