SACP to meet with ANC over plans on going solo

The SA Communist Party (SACP) and the ANC will attend a bilateral meeting on Monday afternoon, to discuss the outcomes of the SACP's congress.

The party's Solly Mapaila says they want to brief the ANC on some of the issues raised in the congress.

They include the SACP's ongoing call for President Jacob Zuma to step down, investigation into state capture and their decisions to contest elections.

Mapaila says President Jacob Zuma and other ANC officials are expected to attend the meeting at 2pm.

He says the ANC's current inability to self-correct has detrimental consequences for the future of South Africa.

The movement has to re-organise itself, look into itself and correct itself.

The SACP has called for the tripartite alliance to be reconfigured.

At the same time, Mapaila says the party is in solidarity with the so-called 'rebel' ANC MPs who have face disciplinary action following the vote of no confidence in Zuma.

He says that ANC MPs are being punished for defending party's values and spoke out against selective disciplining.

Mapaila maintains that it should be a political discussion rather than disciplinary action.
