NMB deputy mayor Bobani no saint or angel – Holomisa

Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor Mongameli Bobani is not a saint or an angel but proper procedure wasn’t followed in removing him from his post, United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa says.

The UDM leader made the comments while discussing the upcoming court case to force the Democratic Alliance-led coalition government in the metro to reinstate him.

DA mayor Athol Trollip claims he had no choice but to get rid of Bobani.

Holomisa says his party is approaching the courts to have the decision stuck down.

The rules of the municipality are clear. If a councilor has infringed or done something wrong, he is either sent to the ethics committee or an inquiry is held. Once the findings are published, they are tabled in the council and the council will make a resolution.

Bantu Holomisa, UDM leader

It can’t be that one party can just look at another party and just say we are moving on a vote of no confidence.

Bantu Holomisa, UDM leader

More importantly, we are challenging the procedures which were used in that council as we have referred to in the court papers, there was no quorum.

Bantu Holomisa, UDM leader

The coalition agreement is clear, you don’t have to vote on everything somebody tells you that you must do.

Bobani, we are not saying is a saint or an angel.

The fact that we asked Bobani to be reinstated shows we are committed to the coalition.

The General says they are willing to spend money on the coalition through the court case.

You have to be careful when you listen to Trollip.
