The tourism industry is showing no signs of slowing down, despite the recession, with over 10 new hotel developments in Cape Town alone, Wesgro chief marketing officer Judy Lain says.
The latest addition to the Cape Town city bowl is the R700 million Sun Square Hotel, owned by Tsogo Sun.
This 19-stroey hotel will add just over 500 rooms to the Mother City’s booming tourism industry.

Lain says the latest tourism trends in Cape Town and the Western Cape are not surprising.
If we just look at tourism growth, the demand for the Western Cape is growing in large numbers. Last year alone, we saw 17,5% growth in tourism arrivals to the Western Cape and we can see that in the investment in hotels. We have over 10 developments in Cape Town alone.— Judy Lain, Wesgro chief marketing officer
The Wesgro marketing chief says she doesn’t believe they’ve reached saturation point just yet.
We do suffer seasonality during our low season, which is April to September, when we are not sitting at full capacity.— Judy Lain, Wesgro chief marketing officer
She says during the December and January peak season, hotels are sitting at full capacity.
We are really well known for good quality service and the people of Cape Town are just such warm and open people. When we speak to tourists, one of the things they say when they leave here is what amazing people we are and how great the service has been.— Judy Lain, Wesgro chief marketing officer
