Ditch the garden and have your wedding on a rooftop instead

Wedding photographer Emma-Jane Harbour spoke with 702 host, Azania Mosaka on why inner-city weddings are a growing trend, not only globally but in South Africa too.

Harbour say couples are increasingly becoming keen to explore non-traditional wedding options and venues and are opting for more edgy alternatives. She says she always comes across two types of brides, those that desire the beautiful old architecture and those that want more simplistic, city landscapes.

My wife and I got married in Braamfontein about five years ago. It was on a building, overlooking the Mandela Bridge and we turned the bar downstairs into the wedding reception area.

I had my wedding on a rooftop at Maboneng, it was very arty and very different from your typical garden wedding. We had our reception at Pata-Pata. It was quite a rustic wedding.

Katlego, caller

Katlego even sent Mosaka his wedding picture.

Harbour says she enjoys shooting around the streets, where there are beautiful graffitti and artistic buildings.

She adds that Cape Town has amazing buildings and studios to photograph at. In Johannesburg, Harbour mentions Canteen, Shine Studios, the Rand Club and Turbine Hall as her favourite venues.

The buildings are a beautiful backdrop on their own.
