Mmusi Maimane targets job creation in DA led metros

The Democratic Alliance (DA) earlier held a press conference featuring the mayors of the major metros they own just over a year ago. At the press conference, DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, spelt out the party’s plan for job creation in the DA-managed municipalities.

EWN reporter, Hitekani Magwedze was at the press conference.

He says Maimane met with Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor, Athol Trollip, Tshwane Mayor, Solly Msimanga as well as Patricia de Lille who is the Mayor of the City of Cape Town to come up with core principles that will guide the DA led cities to activate the cities for job creation.

The first thing they proposed as a core principle was infrastructure development.

Maimane said that cities can roll out vast infrastructure development to ensure economic growth and creating more employment.

Maimane said the perfect example of this is the City of Cape Town.

Magwedze reports that Maimane also mentioned uprooting corruption, adding that it is of no use to try grow the economy while using the tax payers money to invest in systems that will only benefit a few.

According to Magwedze, Maimane also said he plans to reduce red tape.

DA mayors in Tshwane and Joburg said that they should not be judged for their first few months in office, as they are dealing with a problematic legacy left by the ANC
