Twenty-one-year-old Michael February from Kommetjie in Cape Town finished runner-up to Hawaii’s Joshua Moniz in the inaugural Martinique Surf Pro, a QS3 000 rated event and the eighth stop on the 2015 World Surf League Qualifying Series last week Saturday.
“It was really beautiful and a really cool experience,” said February.
It’s February’s best performance ever on the Qualifying Series and earned him a cheque of R120 000 as well as, more importantly, 2250 points which saw him become the highest ranked South African on tour, shooting up 61 places to number 16 in the world rankings.
“I’m home for a while, training hard. There’s another event in Durban at the end of the month and, hopefully, I can do well again.”
