Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown says she didn't know that Eskom lied about its relationship with a Gupta-linked company.
It emerged on Monday that Eskom lied when it said that the more than R1 billion it paid to Trillian was above board.
Minister Brown was before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on Wednesday morning where SA Express is explaining its irregular, wasteful and fruitless expenditure.
Eyewitness News (EWN) reporter Lindsay Dentlinger has more on the story, as well as SA Express' R30 million in irregular expenditure for 2016.
It's emerged today that essentially their system to manage tenders and procurement is not up to scratch... The acting CEO said simply they couldn't go after any individual because it is their own internal processes that are not functioning well and that they have poor systems in place that has led to this irregular expenditure.— Lindsay Dentlinger, EWN reporter
Dentlinger says Brown did not say much when journalists door-stopped her outside Parliament to ask about Eskom's relationship with Trillion.
She was asked about Trillion... whether she knew that Eskom had lied about its relationship with Trillian she literally gave a one-word answer which was 'no'.— Lindsay Dentlinger, EWN reporter
She told reporters that she believed Eskom would meet her 48-hour deadline and provide answers.
