Two-hour shootout in taxi war leaves one dead

Questions are now being asked about a two-hour taxi shoot-out at Vlakfontein, in the south of Johannesburg with police only arriving much later at the scene.

It is suspected the violence erupted because of taxi routes. One person was fatally shot and another wounded.

Busaphi Nxumalo, Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson says they were unfortunately unaware of the violence that broke out between the taxi associations. She confirmed that the matter is being investigated by the South African Police Service (Saps).

Our MEC, Dr Ismail Vadi will meet with both taxi associations to attempt to resolve the matter.
