State capture ante upped with Manual, Moleketi subpoenas - analyst

There's a massive fight going on by those linked to state capture in South Africa with the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) saga, political analyst Karima Brown says.

Over R1 billion was apparently wasted on the system, even though nothing came of it.

Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, speaking from Germany, said, " We will respond comprehensively next week. The IFMS is a project managed by officials-the ministers never got into the details".

The former head of National Treasury added it was part of a well-orchestrated campaign by the "Gupta syndicate to discredit and launch attacks through the abuse of State institutions."

What is interesting, while we were trying to confirm the story yesterday, the Hawks were still trying to play hide-and-seek with this issue.

Karima Brown, political analyst

Brown says reports suggests that the unit set up to investigate crimes against the state, under former Hawks boss Berning Ntlemeza, is driving this process.

When I was speaking to some of the individuals concerned, they said they'd be surprised if the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) would again come with charges that have no basis in law.

Karima Brown, political analyst

Brown says on Wednesday evening, it emerged that the NPA is in fact pursuing this matter.

Brown says she spoke with former finance minister Trevor Manuel and his deputy, Jabu Moleketi, who have both been served with subpoenas.
