Zille to announce WC drought intervention plan

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille will on Thursday announce the provincial government’s intervention plans in municipalities as part of the drought relief programme.

Provincial Local Government MEC Anton Bredell and experts will join the Premier to make the announcement.

We have a plan not only in the city of Cape Town, but across the province to tap the aquifers, to desalinate and reuse water.

Helen Zille, Western Cape Premier

Today we will talk about the progress we have made with the hydrologist to tap boreholes in the right places, so that we don't deplete the ground level water. We also want to prevent the pollution of that groundwater.

Helen Zille, Western Cape Premier

Zille says public institutions like hospitals and schools will be given first preference.
