What you need to know about the new Proteas coach

England bowling coach Ottis Gibson will assume his new role as head coach of the Proteas from mid-September.

This follows the Proteas 3-1 test series defeat against England earlier this month.

The 48-year-old took over as England bowling coach in 2007 before leaving his post to take over as the West Indies head coach and guiding them to the 2010 T20 World Cup, the 2011 Cricket World Cup and then to victory in the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Eyewitness News (EWN) Sports reporter Morena Mothupi shared some more details with Ray White, about the head coach.

He says while little is known about him, this may be a good thing.

To be fair a lot of people don't know much about him and that may bring pros and cons to the situation, but I think with the Proteas sitting where they are sitting right now, it is not a bad idea to bring in someone new with different ideas.

He says everyone is invested in the new appointment.

We will see whether or not he can take us to different heights.
