SA Adventurer Barry Armitage wins world’s toughest endurance horse race

The Mongol Derby has been rated by the New York Times as one of the top ten toughest endurance races on the planet.

Last week South African horseback adventurer Barry Armitage won the 9th edition of the event, finishing in 7 days.

He spoke to Azania Mosaka about the significance of the event.

It is rather spectacular in its vision and scope. There were 43 riders this year riding 27 horses each so that is 1 300 horses that they have to get together and they go out on to the steps and organise these horses with the local herders.....

You have got 13 and a half hours that you can ride a day, from 7 in the morning to 8:30 in the evening and in order to win you have got to ride as much of those 13 and a half hours as you can.
