No intention of charging Gordhan - Hawks

Former ministers Trevor Manuel and Jabu Moleketi have confirmed being served subpoenas to provide affidavits but it appears they were not told what information the Hawks need.

The pair have been asked to file statements in an investigation of the so called rogue unit by Friday.

Last year the unit charged former minister Pravin Gordhan with fraud in a case involving a pension pay out to a senior Sars official but this was later withdrawn.

Eyewitness News reporter Barry Bateman says the Hawks have in turn stressed that there is no intention to charge Gordhan in that matter.

What they have made clear is that they say there is no intention of charging Pravin Gordhan in this particular matter. Hangwani Mulaudzi telling me that they just needed information as requested by the NPA so that they can in his words, close this chapter.

Now does that mean that they are going to bring an end to this investigation or it will finally get to a point where they can prosecute somebody? It is not very clear at this stage.

Moleketi says he does not know what information the Hawks needs from him.

He said to me he doesn't know what information the Hawks needs, he as provided information to them, he hasn't been told what more information they need...
