Cape Town Cycle Tour to move its starting point for 2018

Due to severely strong winds causing the cancellation of the 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour, organisers will move the starting point.

The race which normally starts at the Cape Town Civic Centre on Hertzog Boulevard, will begin next year in the Grand Parade precinct.

Director of Marketing, David Bellairs explains why the decision was made.

The start precinct as it currently is has worked fantastically for years, but this years wind showed us that those two tunnels underneath the Civic Centre just make it completely untenable at the start when you do have excessively high winds.

David Bellairs, Director of Marketing

The overall distance of the event will probably shorten by about 180 meters so no significant change to the distance that you are going to be riding.
