CapeTalk listeners rally behind the Elsies River Chess Club

The Elsies River Chess Club says it is doing its best to keep young people busy and keep them away from a life of drugs and crime.

The Chess Club has been in existence for the past 15 years, according to its treasurer Euclides Koester. They have a total of 40 members of which 22 are youth.

He says they are trying to get young people involved in something positive.

The real benefit of chess is that it promotes the brain growth and improves one's concentration levels... increases problem-solving skills and sparks creativity.

Euclides Koester, Treasurer

The Chess Club is in need of chess sets so that their young members can have a set to take home with them to practice their skills and hone their gamesmanship.

In addition they would also like to get some chess timers, to allow them to keep up with time and play under tournament conditions.

Generous listeners contacted CapeTalk. Stor-Age has agreed to donate 20 chess sets and Wizards Print is donating 10 more sets and has offered to assist with printing any promo material needed. Andrew)
