Tick tock...Eskom has until close of business to meets Lynne Brown's deadline

Minister of Public Enterprises Lynne Brown told the Eskom board earlier this week to explain its deal with Trillian Capital.

The power utility was given a Thursday deadline but Brown later extended the deadline, saying she would like additional information.

Eskom had initially claimed that transactions between Trillian and consultancy firm, McKinsey were all above board but earlier this week, it emerged that New York based management consulting company Oliver Wyman, had red flagged these payments and had recommended a legal review.

EWN reporter, Gia Nicolaides has been covering the story.

Minister Brown is actually asking for additional documents, that she wants in relation to Eskom's business deals with Trillian. Initially she just wanted Eskom to explain its relationship with Trillian.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

On Tuesday when this new information emerged, the minister said, well I had asked you explain this relationship with Trillian in June, now I'm giving you a 48-hour deadline.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

Yesterday, by twelve o'clock they should have handed over that report. By four thirty in the afternoon, we learned that Eskom wasn't quite ready to hand over that report. Shortly after that, we received a statement from the minister, saying she had extended the deadline to the end of business day today (Friday).
