Will opposition parties have their way on Nkandla debacle?

The Constitutional Court on Tuesday heard arguments for 8 hours from opposition parties' in their bid to have President Jacob Zuma impeached.

The opposition parties want Zuma to be held accountable for lying to Parliament over the Nkandla debacle.

EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides says the arguments were brought forward by the EFF, UDM, DA and Corruption Watch.

They all feel that not enough was done to hold Zuma accountable when the Constitutional Court found that he had breached and violated the Constitution.

Basically they want to find out if Zuma lied to Parliament about knowing that he was taking public funds to upgrade his home. They also feel that the Speaker of Parliament didn't hold him properly accountable.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng did grill each one of them on this particular aspect... He (Mogoeng Mogoeng) is very cautious not to overstep the courts parity, he doesn't want to take over the responsibility of the National Assembly...

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

He was questioning them in every angle to determine whether this investigation is necessary after having all these motions that failed - do you think an investigation and inquiry into the President will give you the outcome that you want at the end of the day?
