An estimated 165 000 Rohingya Muslims flee Myanmar over violence

On Wednesday Myanmar made an announcement that it is negotiating with China and Russia to ensure they block any United Nations Security Council censure over the violence that has forced an exodus of over 150 000 minority Rohingya Muslims to Bangladesh in less than two weeks.

The Secretary-General of the UN Security Council expressed concern that the violence could spiral into a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

Kayleigh Long, fFreelance journalist says towards the end of last year, the Rohingya insurgency reared its head and staged some attacks on government posts.

There was an attack on August 25 by Rohingya militants who have risen up in response to mistreatment by the government. And they staged hacks on 30 government posts.

And that's been met by a brutal security crackdown. It looks they are burning bridges to the ground.
