It all started with a call.
Sonja from Edgemead called into the Kieno Kammies Breakfast show with a heartfelt plea for her 86-year-old mother, who is a long time CapeTalk Listener.
Her mother, Helene was in hospital for pneumonia. Whilst doing blood tests, they discovered that she had chronic lymphocytic leukemia. As a result, she had lost a lot of weight.
One of the contributing factors to this is Helene's false teeth. They are too big, fall out of her mouth and prevent her from eating properly.

Sonja's story moved so many listeners, that a flurry of phone calls came with people wanting to help. Some of those callers included Hannes Swanepoel from the Bayside Dental lab and dentist Dr Kathrada.
The Kieno Kammies Breakfast team got Sonja in touch with them.
Swanepoel could assist with making the dentures, but Sonja still needed to take her mom to a dentist to get the impressions of her mouth done. That's where Dr Kathrada came in.
When I phoned Dr Kathrada, he immediately said to me that he has got a moment, he is going to come to my house and do the impressions. I phoned you at 8:55 am, he was here at 10:45 am.— Sonja, CapeTalk Listener
Between Swanepoel and Dr Kathrada, Helene is getting her new set of false teeth, that will not only put a new smile on her face, but also help her eat better - something that is vitally important as she undergoes treatment for her leukemia.
Both Sonja and Helene were so grateful to the Kieno Kammies Breakfast team and the Cape Talk community for pulling together and helping them out.
Helene could not stop expressing her love and gratitude to Kammies, who encouraged her to keep strong during her illness.
Kieno, all my love and thank you.— Helene, CapeTalk Listener
