A youth pastor at Common Ground Church in Rondebosch has allegedly been black mailing young boys in the church to send him explicit photographs of themselves.
According to Ryan TerMorshuizen, senior pastor at Common Ground Church, it was one of the parents who discovered this and brought it to their attention.
TerMorshuizen says they worked closely with the Hawks to gather enough evidence to finally get the 26-year-old man behind bars.
We are absolutely devastated as a congregation. A number of families have had this young man in their homes and it feels like a divorce when someone has been cheating on you and you just didn't see it coming.— Ryan TerMorshuizen, Senior pastor at Common Ground Church
TerMorshuizen says the youth pastor did not actually send photos of himself dressed as a woman to these young boys as it is reported, but he hacked into other people's accounts, taking their very revealing pictures and sending them to these young boys to get them to send him their pictures.
After receiving these pictures, he would then black mail them with leaking their naked pictures online to get them to send him more pictures.
What worries the church is that this young man was working closely with the youth as a photographer during sporting events.
It is absolutely devastating the level of intense evil in which this young man went to lure young boys.— Ryan TerMorshuizen, Senior pastor at Common Ground Church
We hope to see the full weight of the law come down on this situation.— Ryan TerMorshuizen, Senior pastor at Common Ground Church
He was working very closely with the youth as a mentor in youth programs... this breaks our hearts because none of us saw this coming and none of us were aware of it.— Ryan TerMorshuizen, Senior pastor at Common Ground Church
