Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital is not cash strapped - Motsoaledi

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has denied reports that the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital is battling to stay afloat only nine months after it's launch.

According to reports, the hospital needs R500-million a year to cover its operational expenses and has received only R150-million from the state for the 2017-2018 financial year.

Motsoaledi says, however, the allocated money has been given R600 million over a period of 3 years.

There is no government department, which gets given all the money for the whole MTS (medium term strategy) period which is three years, at the same time. So it is true they were given R150 million because that is what they could start with.

It is functioning according to plan -not fully. They said they need to do a dry run, make sure that every equipment is functioning the way they need it to function. They started on a small scale, so what they have done is what is according to schedule and they were given R 150 million for that.
