W Cape Ed investigating claims of teacher humiliating Grade 1 learner

Director of Communications for Western Cape Education Department Paddy Atwell says investigations are underway in the case of the teacher who allegedly stripped naked a Grade 1 learner and verbally abused the student her in front of her classmates on 23 August.

The teacher has denied the allegations calling them a fabrication and our officials are trying to establish exactly what happened.

We can't confirm a particular detail at the moment but we certainly hope to wrap it up in the next day or so.

According to Atwell the mother of the humiliated child has opted to keep the child out of school saying the child is traumatised.

He says their social workers are in the process of speaking to the mother and hopefully the child will help them establish details of this particular incident.
