[Listen] City explains delay in restoring power to JHB CBD

Residents and businesses in Johannesburg have been affected by last week's cable theft in the CBD, leading to another power outage.

Last week copper thieves gained access to the underground tunnels at the weekend, where they burnt cables.

City Power says it will restore electricity by Tuesday evening.

Johannesburg City spokesperson Sol Masolo explains why there has been a delay.

Once we went in, the conditions are quite difficult to work in purely because the tunnels themselves are quite narrow and the length.

The biggest damage is not really the amount of cable stolen but it is more the amount of cables that got burnt.
