One should be worried about Mkhwebane's independence - Brown

While Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has defended her meetings with the Presidency and the State Security Agency (SSA) in her investigation into the Bankorp matter, her independence is under scrutiny.

The central bank has accused Mkhwebane of conspiring with the Presidency and SSA to use the investigation to attack the bank.

In an EWN exclusive, an affidavit filed in the High Court on Monday reveals how the South African Reserve Bank demanded she hand over the transcripts of those meetings.

She has said however, the meetings formed part of her investigation into the Bankorp matter.

The Reserve Bank is taking the report on review.

Political analyst Karima Brown gives her take on the matter, as well as a High Court ruling declaring the outcome of the 2015 KwaZulu-Natal ANC provincial elective conference unlawful.

The problem here with the PP is that since she took office, her behavior has suggested that one should be worried about concerns of her independence.

When she came out with the report on Bankorp it was very clear that the report was a shoddy report.
