IPID to probe cops shooting 12-year-old boy in Hout Bay

Independent Police Investigative Directorate has confirmed that it is investigating a case of attempted murder following a shooting of a 12-year-old boy by police.

According to IPID National Spokesman, Moses Dlamini, the police did not report the incident after it happened and that too is being investigated.

The matter came to light after a video made rounds on social media, showing police shooting at two kids hiding behind a barricade.

In the video, after police establishing individuals hiding behind the barricade are children, a boy comes out bleeding from the mouth.

The fact is when you discharge a firearm you look at the possibility that even a rubber bullet can kill at that distance.

Moses Dlamini, IPID national spokesperson

Dlamini says they managed to get hold of the boy as well as his mother. They will be collecting their statements as well as locating the original footage.

At this stage we must investigate, even though from the footage it is very clear that the force used was excessive. We need to investigate so that we can come to a proper conclusion that the police officer must face the full might of the law.
