702 Small Business Awards

Benoni's first craft Bar

The Green Craft Bar, located at the Benoni Country Club is a relaxed spot for residents to enjoy a craft beer and socialize.

What was initially a vacant roof turned into the area's first contemporary craft bar built out of a 40ft shipping container which all the Greens are based on.

You won’t find any commercial brands at their bars but rather a great range of SA products, only craft beer, ciders, small batch spirits, a huge range of gins and a small, ever changing food menu.

The bar is one of 20 finalists in the Sage Small Business Awards with 702 .

Stephen Grootes, standing in for Xolani Gwala, spoke to Dex Manday, founder of the bar.

It was out of necessity more than seeing a gap I suppose.

Dex Manday, founder

We created a cool little eco-system where we both benefit from bringing people into the club and introducing them to a really pretty environment.

Dex Manday, founder

We have set ourselves apart, we do not do any kind of big brand spirits, we try to keep it South African mostly.
