"Comrades who have taken the current PEC to the court are backing Ramaphosa"

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal looks set to be taking on its mother body as the party's provincial league on Wednesday came short of telling the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) to back off.

The structures of the ANC in the province held a briefing, announcing that the provincial party will appeal the judgment declaring the 2015 elective conference unlawful.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says the provincial structure does not have the authority to decide what the party does - while the leagues maintain the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) doesn't have to abide by its mother body's decision.

ANC KZN spokesman Mdumiseni Ntuli says there is no particular reason why the press conference was held by the league.

It so happens this press conference was held soon after the meeting of the provincial executive committee which was held a day before. And for obvious reasons, the PEC had taken an approach that it wanted to engage with the national executive of the ANC before taking any steps.

Ntuli explains that the league representatives at the press conference did not share anything new which the national party was unaware of. The only thing they failed to share was how they planned to address the issue relating to ANC's 2015 KwaZulu-Natal elective conference being declared null and void by the courts, he added.

The ANC PEC was very firm in saying they will need the blessings of the National Executive Committee with every move they make.
