Spy tapes saga used to assassinate my career - former NPA boss

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Appeal saw President Jacob Zuma and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) concede that the decision to withdraw criminal charges against him was irrational and should be set aside.

Stephen Grootes speaks to Mxolisi Nxasana former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).

Nxasana believes his removal as head of the NPA in 2015 was because of fears that he could reinstate these charges against President Zuma.

He says he is not surprised by the sudden turn around by the NPA.

This is a case that was used against me to basically oust me from the NPA, to attack and assassinate my career and humiliate myself and my family.

Mxolisi Nxasana, former NDPP

I couldn't help but stop and think about all the dirty tricks that these people were up to.

Nxasana suggests deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions, Nomgcobo Jiba, was part of plot to remove him.

I had not even seen the docket in the matter, but this was used, especially Jiba and others used this matter and told the prettiness that I was planning to reinstate these charges against him when in fact they knew very well that they had this docket themselves.

Mxolisi Nxasana, former NDPP

They went as far as to hatch a plan with some members of the state security agency and the crime intelligence unit, that at the end I was denied security clearance. They denied me the security clearance so I could not deal with this matter.
