Distraught family member recounts how Ocean View boy (9) shot in gang crossfire

A nine-year old boy from Ocean View was killed in his home last weekend, just hours before his grandmother was supposed to get married.

It's understood little Aqeel Davids was caught in the crossfire between two warring gangsters in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred when alleged gang members chased a man who had run into the family’s back yard.

The deceased boy's aunt Mishqah Davids says the family was unaware that the man had taken cover in their home.

Suspected gang members opened fire in the family's home, hitting the boy in the process.

The young child was shot in the head and declared brain dead on arrival at the hospital.

We were all sitting around in the lounge [after midnight] and there was a quarrel in the road... Not long after, guys gathered in the corner and started arguing.
