Right2Know not happy with provisions in the Cybercrimes and Cybersecurity Bill

South African mobile network operators says they are supporting aspects of the proposed Cybercrimes and Cybersecurity Bill.

Member of Right2Know Karabo Rajuili says networks operators have raised important points about some of the crimes committed in cyberspace and Right2Know agrees that these crimes need to be dealt with.

However, they feel that some of the clauses the Cybercrimes Bill proposes are unnecessary and infringe on ordinary members of the public and journalists' rights to information and exchange of ideas.

We are saying the way the Cybercrimes Bill is currently framed it has the potential of policing the truth as well as policing the internet in a way that is completely undue.

Karabo Rajuili, Member of Right2Know

The internet has become an important resource for social development, for new comers into the market to publish new content... we see the internet as fundamental human right.
