ANC leadership can't reach consensus on what's wrong with the party - Brown

A special African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) meeting on Monday is expected to take a final decision to uphold or overturn the Kwazulu Natal ANC's decision to appeal the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruling.

The meeting will plot the way forward following the court ruling which effectively rendered KwaZulu Natal ANC province leaderless as factions are reportedly split over who should lead the ANC after its elective conference in December.

Speaking to the media after a report-back to 300 ANC branches on last week's court judgment, former ANC provincial chairperson and former premier of KwaZulu-Natal< Senzo Mchunu, warned that the ANC could lose the province in the 2019 elections if it does not resolve its divisions.

Political analyst Karima Brown says an inability to agree on how to fix the ANC is what forced provincial leaders to meet in Mpumalanga at the weekend.

They spoke on the question of leadership slates and the need to have a consensus approach to leadership.

I think if the basis for coming together is only about how you manage leadership contests then of course the ANC is in a very big problem.
