ANC leadership needs to be singing from same hymn sheet: Mashatile

At the weekend, African National Congress (ANC) Provincial leaders from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal, the Free State and the North West made a joint call for members of the party to make sure that the ANC is united when its National Conference begins in December.

At the ANC Mpumalanga Provincial General Council, ANC Mpumalanga Chairperson David Mabuza proposed that the party does away with slate politics, and instead comes up with "consensus leadership" ahead of the December conference.

Stephen Grootes, standing in for Xolani Gwala, spoke to ANC Gauteng Chairperson Paul Mashatile on how important it is for the party, to enter the December conference as a united front.

We have decided that going to this conference in December should not be done the old way where you have two groups contesting on slates because we have seen historically that has brought a lot of divisions in the ANC.

Paul Mashatile, Gauteng ANC chairperson

Consensus means you need to engage with those who previously would not see things the same way.

Paul Mashatile, Gauteng ANC chairperson

We are trying to say by the time we get to conference in December, delegates should be reading the same script.
