'If government treats taxi matter like this there will be no concession reached'

The Gauteng government has moved to address tensions between metered taxi drivers and Uber driver partners.

Recent clashes saw three Uber vehicles torched and one vandalised outside the Sandton Gautrain station and Hatfield.

There have been twenty-eight arrests so far.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura held a briefing on Sunday about the clashes.

Oupa Skosana, spokesperson for Gauteng Metered Taxis Concerned Group, tells The Midday Report stand-in host, Ray White that they have not yet been addressed by Makhura.

As long as the government is treating the matter like this there will never be a concession reached.

Skosana explains that as long as Uber continues operating illegally, tensions will continue to exist.

He says any licenses issued currently must be allocated to metered taxi drivers and goes on to say Uber driver partners need to get their own correct, licenses instead of carrying and using metered taxi licences.

The Act has got to be amended.
