Cape man in bid to become first South African to complete gruelling Oceans Seven

Cape Town businessman Toni Enderli has his sights set on becoming the first South African to conquer the Oceans Seven Challenge, after swimming Hawaii’s Molokai Channel this month.

Enderli, a property consultant and seasoned endurance swimmer, braved the harsh and deadly Hawaiian swim to raise funds for the National Sea Rescue Institute's (NSRI) water safety campaign.

Only seven people in the world have completed the gruelling Oceans Seven circuit so far and Enderli is hoping to be the eighth.

It comprises of seven long-distance open water swims, which are compared to climbing the seven highest mountain peaks.

Enderli covered 58km and over 20 hours in the water to conquer Hawaii’s daunting Molokai Channel.

He explains how he first got into long distance swimming and the start of his journey with inter-continental feats.

About nine years ago, I was going through a rough patch in my life and a friend of mine said we should do Robben Island crossing.

Six months later I managed to do it. I said never, ever again, but the bug bit.
