Sars guns for KPMG to be blacklisted, but has no qualms with 'rogue unit' report

Sars commissioner Tom Moyane says the revenue service will institute legal action against KPMG for reputational damage.

Moyane says Sars will also report the auditing firm to the Finance Minister in a bid to have it blacklisted, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

On Monday, Sars publicly reacted KPMG’s decision to withdraw its report into the so-called Sars spy unit.

Sars will launch a civil claim for reputational damage, report KPMG to relevant authorities and push for the firm to be blacklisted for its behaviour.

He [Moyane] was very upset that KPMG went ahead and released the statement to the public without consulting with Sars first.

Last week, KPMG rescinded the findings and recommendations contained in its report into the so-called Sars spy unit.

The report saw the removal of several senior officials at Sars, including former finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

Moyane says that legally, the so called 'rogue unit' report belongs to the revenue service, and not KPMG.

He does not believe that the KPMG report is flawed, despite it being described as immoral, unethical and unlawful.
