South African Revenue Service (Sars) group executive Luther Lebelo says the withdrawal of the KPMG report does not exonerate axed Sars officials.
This comes after confirmation that several former Sars officials are seeking legal recourse after they were dismissed in connection to the so-called 'rogue unit' report.
Lebelo says the likes of former Sars deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay and former Sars group executive Johann van Loggerenberg have no legal leg to stand on because they were charged prior to the publication of the report.
He argues that they were charged in January/February in 2015, while the KPMG report was leaked in September 2015 and only confirmed as valid in January 2016.
It follows that the people who were disciplined could not have been disciplined as a result of a report that was in progress.— Luther Lebelo, Sars Group Executive for Employment Relations
Lebelo also accused former Sars spokesperson Adrian Lackay of lying.
