SACP want NPA to reinstate corruption charges against Zuma

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has called on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to reinstate corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma and once again for the African National Congress (ANC) to remove him from public office.

SACP first deputy general secretary Solly Mapaila was addressing the party’s supporters during a lecture to honour late SACP and ANC stalwart Ahmed Kathrada in Mbombela on Sunday.

He said an admission by the President’s attorneys in the Supreme Court of Appeal last week has now paved the way for the charges to be reinstated.

Political analyst Karima Brown shares her take on the matter.

If in the event that the Supreme Court of Appeal says that it is up to Shaun Abrahams to recharge or not, we already know President Jacob Zuma's scheme plans to make representations.

Back then when representations were made the communist party and others were very much part of that because they believed that there was a conspiracy against the President.

Very interesting, very nuanced picture but I think now the effect is they know believe that the President should have his day in court and that is the only place that can decide his innocence or his guilt.

The SACP held a bilateral with Cosatu on Monday as it prepares for strike action next Wednesday, on September 27.
