Journalist eye witness account: 'Myanmar is a humanitarian disaster'

About 400 000 Rohingya Muslims, 240 000 being children, have fled from Myanmar’s northern Rakhine state to the border of Bangladesh over the past three weeks.

According to reports, the Rohingya are fleeing from Myanmar’s military who are on a campaign called ethnic cleansing, using violent tactics to respond to a series of armed attacks on border police by Rohingya militants.

About 30% (175 villages) of all Rohingya villages currently stands empty.

Azhar Vadi, a journalist situated at the Border in Myanmar and Bangladesh says he has witnessed what he describes as the worst humanitarian disaster in the world.

There are thousands of Rohingyas that are streaming across the borders from Myanmar into Bangladesh and finding themselves in despicable conditions... it has been raining for the past 15 hours continuously.

People have put up make-shift shelters using sticks and black plastics and those shelters have been completely destroyed by the rain and you can see the suffering of hundreds of people here in Bangladesh.
