Police Minister Fikile Mbalula’s relationship with South Africa's acting national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Lesetja Mothiba is reportedly on the rocks.
This after it emerged that the top cop is allegedly leading so-called rogue elements within the South African Police Services Crime Intelligence.
There may also be an investigation by Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) into the possibility that Mbaula could be fingered in the murder of North West business man Wandile Bozwana.
Senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies, Dr Johan Burger says the problems within the police has been on the decline for some time now.
What I do find difficult to believe are the allegations that General Mothiba is part of these investigations. I've known him for many years. It's not that it's impossible, it is highly improbable.— Dr. Johan Burger, Senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies
Burger explains that it is difficult to determine fact from fiction with so many conspiracies and allegations surfacing. He says ordinary police men and women are likely to feel uncertain about who they can trust in their own leadership.
There is very little trust and confidence in the police at this moment.— Dr. Johan Burger, Senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies
We need a firm assertion that the recommendations in the National Development Plan about the process and criteria of appointments in he police service will be implemented to avoid what we are currently faced with.— Dr. Johan Burger, Senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies
