Family spokesperson describes how 13-year-old bullied boy died

A 13-year-old boy has died, possibly as a result of injuries he sustained while fighting off school bullies in Ekurhuleni.

An organisation called Families in Need had contacted the school on several occasions in an attempt to stop the bullying of the grade seven pupil.

He was seriously injured when he was cornered on school grounds earlier in September.

Police are investigating the circumstances around his death.

Family spokesperson Jade Landman says the boy was injured while trying to protecting his brother from bullies, earlier this month.

On the fourth of September, there was a big fight at school - where the two brothers are together in the same class. One is older than the other one.

The younger brother would always stick up for his older brother, says Landman, because the older boy would never talk back or stand up for himself when bullied.

It ended up in a huge fist fight where apparently three of them jumped them.

She says the mother emailed the school and was told in a response that 'it was a simple fist fight.'

Since that day he had been complaining about chronic headaches.

Then on Friday when he returned to school, one of the children kicked a soccer ball against his head, says Landman, saying 'we will make your headaches worse.'

Over the weekend he was vomiting, complained of further headaches and had no appetite, his mother had told Landman.

They are such a wonderful and close family.

Landman describes how the boy's sister phoned their mother and said 'Louis is turning blue and I can't bend his arm'. By the time the mom arrived home the boy had passed away.
