Kenyan court slams electoral board for failing to verify poll results

The Supreme Court in Kenya has delivered its much-awaited full judgment on the nullification of the August 8 presidential election.

The court says Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was meant to ensure that the system of voting, counting and tallying of results was verifiable and accurate, reports EWN's Crystal Orderson.

The court criticises the election board for failing the basic test; that is to verify the official result of the August poll before announcing it.

The board was also criticised for not comlying with several court orders, including opening the computer server system for scrutiny.

Judges came under fire and there was huge protest outside the courts, describes Orderson.

The IEBC has yet to respond to the full official court ruling.

Kenyans to head back to the polls on 17 October.

Meanwhile, a French technology firm says that it won't be ready for the fresh polls scheduled for October.
