On Thursday, African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament Makhosi Khoza cut ties with the party.
In August the ANC removed Khoza from her position as chair of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration.
EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides was at the media briefing at Lilliesleaf Farm in northern Johannesburg where Khoza made the announcement.
Nicolaides reports that Khoza spoke for well over an hour before saying 'with a heavy heart, she no longer wished to be part of a corrupt and alien ANC'.
Khoza explained in great detail that it pained her that she was ridiculed when she acted with her moral conscience and that corruption has been institutionalised in the ANC.— Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
Nicolaides explains that Khoza felt the ANC would self-correct at some point but unfortunately now believes this is no longer the case and quashed speculation that she will join the Democratic Alliance.
KwaZulu-Natal ANC spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli says his organisation was not surprised.
We are vindicated as the ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in KZN. We saw this coming.— Mdumiseni Ntuli, KwaZulu-Natal ANC Spokesperson
Ntuli adds that now Khoza is a non-ANC member, she will no longer face a disciplinary hearing. He says the ANC is stronger than its problems.
