New Whiskas ad is charming and entertaining (even for non-cat people!)

Santam’s ad, however, fails bigtime. Bruce Whitfield interviews ad expert Andy Rice.

Every week The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield asks branding and advertising expert Andy Rice to share with him the week’s advertising “heroes” and “zeroes”.

This week’s “hero” is Whiskas cat food’s “Feed their curiosity”.

It’s a UK created campaign, but it's running on TV in South Africa.

It’s charming and entertaining – cat people will love it!

This week’s “zero” is Santam’s “What could possibly go wrong?” campaign.

The campaign positions Santam as the insurer that looks for reasons to pay rather than reasons to repudiate a claim.

Rice fears it’ll make clients “claims happy”, seeing a “well-timed and well-fabricated claim” as getting them out of a financial hole.

This, said Rice, happened when IGI adopted the slogan "We don't hassle. We pay" back in the day.

It contributed to IGI's ultimate downfall.
