Gun safety: gun violence at home puts women and children at risk

Women and children are at risk of gun violence.

This is according to Adele Kirsten, director at Gun Free, following the news of a seven-year-old Brakan boy who took a loaded gun to school to deal with a bully who tormented him daily. Luckily the gun was confiscated before any harm was done.

The young boy took a loaded gun out of his father's safe which was open and not bolted to the wall as per the regulations.

The police are currently looking for the boy's father who is at large.

Having a gun in the home is a risk.

Adele Kirsten, director at Gun Free South Africa

One of the things as South Africans we don't talk enough about, is that there is a risk of having a gun in the home. We only think of guns as self-defence in crime, and that's where the conversation stops.
