Words you will hear today: Festival of flying chairs

A video revealing the violence that erupted at the weekend during the African National Congress's (ANC) elective conference in the Eastern Cape has gained traction on social media.

The footage posted by local news agency the Daily Dispatch emerged on Sunday.

In the video, delegates can be seen flinging plastic chairs and punching each other as chaos erupted in the conference centre.

At least 8 ANC delegates have reportedly been hospitalised after sustaining injuries during the brawl.

Talk radio producer Jonathan Fairbairn shared a number of funny suggestions to avoid a repeat of events at the national conference in December.

Nobody can be referred to as the chairperson, that will just set things off.

Jonathan Fairbairn, 702 producer

Instead of ANC T-shirts perhaps we can give some ANC hard hats, we do not want to see any injuries.

Jonathan Fairbairn, 702 producer

Because there is no chair policy, we will only accept members in good standing.
